Although we know your average gamer loves a good complain, that's nothing compared to the fiery vitriol that pours out of the Helldivers 2 community. It seems that the devs just can't win, and despite some much-requested buffs in the latest patch notes, the game's critics are still out for blood.
Arrowhead Games Studios flipped what we thought we knew about 2015's top-down Helldivers on its head, delivering a co-operative shooter that's genuinely given Call of Duty a run for its money. As with any modern shooter, balancing the plethora of weapons is one of its biggest challenges, and it's fair to say, Arrowhead has struggled.
Helldivers 2 critics still aren't happy
Why are some of y'all not liking the patch news?

Helldivers 2 has been grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons, frequently being called out for OP weapons and then nerfing them into oblivion. Still, the devs have been lurking in the depths of Reddit and asking for player feedback on what needs to change. That's all well and good, but you still aren't satisfied.
Among all of Helldivers 2's iconic weapons, flamethrowers have become a point of contention. While we love the smell of toasted Terminids in the morning, the Escalation of Freedom update was universally slammed for nerfing the likes of the flamethrower. Arrowhead has addressed these complaints in its latest patch notes.
Patch 01.001.007 promises 'improvements' to flamethrowers, adding, "We've heard you loud and clear and Flamethrower damage is increased by 33%" Although this should be good news ahead of the patch's September 17 release, it seems some of you are treading with caution or simply refusing to come back to battle.
Redditor Fast_Freddy07 asked why critics are still giving Arrowhead a hard time, especially as the OP says the flamethrower "change is peak." Accusing some of you being "allergic to fun or something," the replies explained why some have been burned too many times by Helldivers 2.
One sceptic said, "I can't speak for everyone but for me it comes from a place of, AH talks alot about how they are going to improve and listen to the community but up until now we haven't seen it in practice," while another added, "I'd wager a lot of people who wanted these changes have moved on, myself included. I'll come back if it's good."
Supporting Arrowhead, someone else wrote, "I love how people are judging the patch 7 days before the patch and with only a small drop of the patch revealed…" and a fourth concluded, "Hey I'm just happy they're finally gonna do what they should have done six months ago: revert the nerfs and make the game fun like we want it to be."
Whether Arrowhead can lure back the naysayers remains to be seen, but we'll agree that to write off the patch before it's even out is wild. Helldivers 2 might not have the best track record when it comes to nailing updates, but with the devs assuring us that lessons have been learned, we're cautiously optimistic that this is the one that'll get us back on top.
