Overwatch 2 Season 12 is just around the corner, and Blizzard has now lifted the sarcophagus lid to show fans what treasures lie within.
With pyramids and deserts in mind, Overwatch 2 Season 12 is taking tips from Tutankhamun on decor and aesthetics, as an Egyptian gloss-over is on the way. It's filled with new skins, maps, cosmetics, and a new hero called Juno.
But, fans have already picked the bones off this new appearance, as Blizzard forgot to honour the one hero in Overwatch who is actually based on an Egyptian deity: Ramattra.
Overwatch 2 fans baffled as Ramattra gets snubbed in Egyptian-themed Season 12
In Overwatch 2 lore, Ramattra has strong ties to the Egyptian God Anubis, who is his 'creator'. Bizarrely, the new Egyptian thematic has completely shunned Ramattra, instead making pharaohs out of Mercy and others.
Immediately after the trailer dropped, comments flooded in from fans checking in on Ramattra, whose Egyptian ties have been glossed over despite a new Clash map being based on his likeness. It's all as the "Throne of Anubis" map directly references Ramattra.
"Having nothing for Ramattra in an Egyptian-themed season when his concept was literally Anubis is criminal," one fan said, while another added, "I'm convinced Blizzard has something personal against Ramattra."
Even more divisive, the Mythic Anubis skin will be available to players in the Premium Battle Pass. This sounds perfect for Ramattra, right? Wrong. The Jackal-headed God of Funery skin has been handed off to Reaper.
Other players pointed out that Venture - whose entire personality is being an archaeologist and likeness for ancient Egyptian mythology - was also left out in the cold.
The Overwatch lore does claim that "Ramattra despises Anubis", as he often references his overlord creator when talking to Pharah. Maybe his distaste for Anubis left Blizzard thinking a skin based on his nemesis might be a bit out of touch.
